From Local Hero to Regional Powerhouse: Telcowin’s Journey with UEM Sunrise
Building a successful business is all about growth and transformation. For Telcowin’s CEO, Hafiz Izwan, a key turning point came through a partnership with UEM Sunrise; Malaysia’s leading property developer.
Hafiz’s vision was clear: to elevate the customer experience through innovative technology solutions. While Telcowin focused its efforts on digital marketing during the boom of social media marketing, Telcowin started servicing smaller stakeholders with simpler projects. However, the UEM Sunrise opportunity presented a chance to take things to a whole new level.
The UEM Sunrise project demanded a more comprehensive approach. It wasn’t just about marketing; it was about digital transformation, requiring collaboration across marketing, sales, and customer service departments. This complex project became a springboard for Telcowin’s growth.”Before the opportunity with UEM Sunrise,” Hafiz admits, “we weren’t confident we could handle a project of this magnitude.” Yet, with each milestone achieved, Telcowin’s team grew – from 15 people in 2017 to 80 by 2020. They honed their skills, tackled complex challenges, and emerged stronger. Today Telcowin’s presence is not only in Malaysia but also in Indonesia under PT Telcowin Solution Indonesia.
This experience wasn’t just about technical expertise. Telcowin also discovered the power of a localised approach. As a Bumiputera company (referring to the indigenous people of Malaysia), they understood the nuances of the Malaysian market. They could tailor their approach, using local references and examples that resonated with customers. The success of the UEM Sunrise project propelled Telcowin forward. They diversified their industry focus, venturing into oil & gas, media & energy, and financial services. They even set their sights on regional expansion, targeting neighbouring countries like Indonesia and Brunei.
Looking back, Hafiz emphasises the importance of trust and opportunity. UEM Sunrise’s belief in Telcowin allowed them to showcase their capabilities and break into new territories. They learned invaluable lessons about project management, stakeholder communication, and documentation – all crucial for success on a larger scale.
Telcowin’s story is an inspiration for Bumiputera companies seeking to grow. It demonstrates the power of seizing opportunities, embracing challenges, and continuously learning. As Hafiz concludes, “This program has played a very vital role in helping Telcowin, and I believe they help other Bumiputera companies to spread their wings and gain their standard to a level of international companies.” Initiatives like BVEA are crucial for empowering local businesses. We truly hope they continue to provide these opportunities for other Malaysian companies!
